Alex JulyanAlex Julyan is a British artist who studied at Chelsea College of Art in the early 1980s. She has since worked as a sculptor, installation artist, curator and educator, and also collaborates with writers and composers, working on large-scale projects and events which explore the territory between music, theatre and installation. Her sculptural works are assembled from a wide range of everyday and abandoned materials, as well as texts and fabricated elements: she exhibited recent sculptures and works from her Ground Control series of cardboard constructions utilising discarded packaging with England & Co in 2002. More recently a group of her boxed constructions from the series Mise en Scène were included in England & Co's Summer show 2009: these new works subtly subvert traditional Victorian paper theatres with Surrealist juxtapositions in the spirit of Max Ernst.
