| 1909 | Born in September at Moor Park, England. Educated by the Jesuits, Beaumont College and by private tutors abroad. | 
| 1925 | Joined his mother at Villefranche. | 
| 1925-29 | Travelled in France, Italy, and Austria. | 
| 1926-36 | Studied with Francis Picabia and, for a short time, with Sert. | 
| 1926 | Painted several portraits of Isadora Duncan. | 
| 1928 | Visited Morocco and North Africa. | 
| 1929 | Designed scenery and costumes for Serge Diaghilev (now in the Wadsworth Athenium, Hereford, Connecticut, USA). Worked with Christopher Wood in Brittany. | 
| 1930 | First exhibition (with Salvador Dali) at Galerie Marie Cuttoli, Paris. | 
| 1931 | Met Gertrude Stein. Galerie Marie Cuttoli, Paris, solo exhibition. | 
| 1932-34 | Visited Germany. |
