James Lancaster

Born in 1960 in St Albans, Lancaster studied at Goldsmiths College, London in the early 1980s. He experimented with infra-red photography and worked as a photographic hand printer before concentrating on his intense, luminous drawings and video works. He says: 'I am mostly obsessed with the body and how to show its mysterious allure, and the physicality, sensuality and subconscious imagery associated with it.'

Works by Lancaster were included in the Gallery's 2008 exhibition Is there anybody out there?
