Yves Klein

Yves Klein (1928-1962), was a French conceptual artist and a radical, utopian dreamer described by the French critic, Pierre Restany as 'a painter, but also infinitely more: a believer living in his own sense of the divine'. Klein's diverse practice included ephemeral works in his quest for immateriality; and in 1957, he developed the colour International Klein Blue (IKB), often signing his works 'Yves le Monochrome'. Klein exhibited with Iris Clert's gallery, and together they became a focus for avant-garde Paris in the 1950s. In 1960, he became a founder member of the Nouveau Realisme group: New Realism=New Perceptual Approaches To The Real.
