Samira Abbassy

Samira Abbassy was born in south-western Iran in 1965. As a child, she moved with her family to Britain, where she was educated and studied painting. She has exhibited in Britain and the USA, and currently lives in New York. Her work draws on the visual traditions of both Middle-Eastern and Western art to investigate their shared mythology and iconography as well as her personal identity. Abbassy has exhibited with England & Co in the exhibition Two Artists from Iran, and one of her drawings was acquired from the gallery by the Department of the Middle East at the British Museum. In 2010, she was represented in Iran Inside Out at CAM – Chelsea Art Museum, New York – an exhibition of contemporary Iranian artists 'challenging conventional perceptions of Iran and Iranian art'.
